It’s a rewarding decision to transfer from your local college to an accredited university like Northern Arizona University so that you can earn your bachelor’s degree—and having a solid game plan will get you there.

Know what steps you should take now so that you don’t hit any bumps in the transfer process later. Here’s our must-do checklist to keep you on track before you transfer

Sharpen Your Study Skills

Are your current study skills earning you the grades you want? It may be time to change how you prepare for tests. Determine the best ways for you to study so that you’ll succeed when you transfer.

Choose Your Preferred Class Format

Do you prefer in-person classes? More comfortable learning online? Or does a competency-based online program like Personalized Learning work best for your schedule? Know the way you learn best so that you choose the right degree program for you.

Get Your Finances In Order

Plan your budget. That includes the cost of tuition, textbooks, gas, food and rent or mortgage payments. Stick to a realistic financial plan so that you can stay focused while earning your degree.

Don’t forget to apply for financial aid and scholarships. There are even scholarships designed for transfer students

Meet With Your Advisor

Make time to meet with both your local college advisor as well as your NAU advisor. That way, you’ll know that you’re taking the right classes and ensure a seamless transfer to NAU.

Get Ahead With Summer Courses

Many universities allow you to transfer credits from your local college. At NAU, you can transfer up to 90 credits depending on your chosen degree program.

Summer classes are a great way to get ahead on your degree as well as get a seat in classes that often fill up quickly during the fall or spring semester.

Set Goals

Plan ahead. Know the semester you want to start at NAU and what courses to take now to make it happen. Research internship opportunities to pursue while you earn your degree. Maintain good grades to increase your chances of winning scholarships.
