Pros & Cons Of Taking A Winter Class

Enrollment for NAU winter classes 2015 is now open. Are you planning to take a winter class?

If it’s something you haven’t considered yet, now is the time to find out if it’s right for you. Winter classes have a lot of benefits and will get you one step closer to meeting your education goals, but they aren’t for everyone.

We broke down the pros & cons of taking a winter class so you can weigh your options and make the best decision for yourself.

Pro: You Earn 3 Credits In 4 Weeks

Three credits in four weeks is pretty hard to beat. A normal semester is 16 weeks, and NAU offers many courses in the fall and spring that are eight weeks; winter classes are even shorter. In just a quarter of the length of a normal semester you can complete an entire course.

Con: The Content Is Accelerated

While it’s great to be able to finish a course in just four weeks, it’s important to remember that you’re learning the same amount of information as a regular course in a shorter window of time. This can be great if the material comes easily to you, or if you’re willing to dedicate the extra time required to do your best. If you like the idea of accelerated content, then winter classes are a great option.

Pro: Winter Classes Are Less Crowded

At NAU we pride ourselves on keeping class sizes down for all semesters, and this is especially true of winter classes. If you enjoy having a more intimate classroom experience, then a winter class is a good fit.

Con: Not All Classes Are Offered

Not all classes are offered during winter; however, there are over 80 online classes you can choose from. Check to see what classes are available by logging into your LOUIE account.

Pro: You Get Closer To Graduation

Graduation is what you’re working towards, so why not get three credits closer during winter break? If you have your eye on that finish line, then a winter class will help you get there sooner.

Con: You Won’t Get A Break Before Spring Semester

Many people depend on some time off between semesters to decompress, but that depends on what type of learner you are. And although you don’t get a break between classes, you don’t have to give up a winter holiday. Almost all winter classes are online so you can learn anywhere that you have internet access.

If you think a winter class might be right for you, log into your LOUIE account. You can search for available classes and register right there online. Enroll now!
